I’ve always been into great stories, whether it’s in movies, video games, comics, but I’ve never really gotten into books. I’m trying to change that, but I don’t know what exactly I’m looking for. I just bought a handful of books recently. I’ve got some history books, about Alexander the Great and another one about the Gulag during the Stalin Era. I’ve got some memoirs that are also self-helpy. But I’ve got two other books that seem really interesting to me.
    -Post Office by Charles Bukowski
-The Karamazov Brothers by Fyodor Dostoevsky

Post Office definitely has a lighter touch to it with humor, but I can easily relate to it. I really enjoy Charles Bukowski poetry and writing that I’ve encountered here and there. I’ve read the first chapter only, so far.

The Karamazov Brothers I expected to be a difficult read, but it’s so good and a lot easier than I’d imagined. Also it’s huge. I don’t know if choosing this to be one of my first books was a great idea, but im in it and excited for the philosophical, psychological, and religious tones of it all to play out. I started reading yesterday and am on Book Two, which is basically Chapter 6.

Well anyway, I’m wondering, based on those two books that I’m currently interested in, if any one has any good recommendations for me.

If you like Bukowski’s poetry, you’ll probably like Rupi Kaur. Most of her writing is on Instagram, I think.

Otherwise, Kurt Vonnegut is good, Paul Beatty, Joseph Heller, Claire Vaye Watkins, and Kelly Link should get you started on modern stuff that’s thoughtful, a little weird, and accessible without being dumbed down.
