Exactly what the title says, I want to start buying two copies of the same book to read with my mom during her chemo treatments for breast cancer as neither of us are the type to chat constantly for the many hours we’ll be sitting together for infusions.
We’ve both read The End of Your Life Book Club, which is where I got the idea although my mom’s prognosis is not at all terminal.
Some books and authors we have both liked are:
The End of Your Life Book Club
Ahab’s Wife
Memoirs of a Geisha
Homegoing by Yaa Gayasi
Kristin Hannah’s books
Where the Crawdads Sing
Educated
The Goldfinch by Donna Tart
The Help
The Paris Wife
This is an off the cuff list and I could come up with more to go off of for recommendations if necessary.
My mom’s tastes trend a little lighter in tone than mine while I usually prefer more moody stuff. Neither of us read authors like James Patterson or John Grisham and typically read literature/fiction, with a bit of a lean into historical fiction with some thriller/mystery in there as well.
For the first book at least I’m hoping to avoid major plot points featuring cancer/illness and ideally nothing heartbreaking although down the line someone else’s heartbreak might be a nice place to visit.
Thank you in advance, I’ve seen yall give out some great recommendations so Im hoping you can help me get a list together to cover 6-8 months worth of treatments, surgery and recovery time
