I was a “gifted kid” in school, I could read non-stop, whole books in one sitting, I had a reading level much higher than my grade, etc etc. Then like many, after college I burnt out hard, and my mental health crashed drastically (like grippy sock vacation drastic). I feel like since then my general intelligence has just diminished and there’s a lot of words I don’t understand and I just kind of get overwhelmed & have a hard time reading and enjoying it, I feel like I got got by a intellect devourer. I don’t think I’ve picked up a book to read casually since before I graduated college (2017).

I do read webcomics and manga from time to time, and I’ll read summaries of books and be interested in them and even purchase them, but then I have a really hard time actually reading them & understanding/processing what I’m reading. What are some… I guess easy to digest books to start with? Or audiobooks maybe (if that’s ok to ask for here)? Or if anyone has any other kind of suggestions?

With other content I enjoy fantasy, mystery (not high horror or gore though) adventure, romance (not particularly fond of high smut content but if there’s a good story with it I’m down), slice of life/feel good. I think I’m more interested in fiction but I have picked up some nonfictions recently with the intent of trying to read them. One of my friends suggested I start by looking at YA novels, but I don’t really know where to start within that realm.

Thank you everyone for suggestions! I know this seems kind of silly and it’s probably a lot simpler then I’m making it all, but I still just feel a little lost and appreciate any input!
