Hi everyone! I (19F) am looking to get my mom (34F) a book for Christmas, but I’m in need a major help! I don’t want to buy her a book from a TV show/movie she’s already watched, so if anyone could help me id greatly appreciate it. She always talks about wanting to read more so if anyone can make any suggestions off of these shows she watched I’d be so happy!
She likes to watch
• The Handmaid’s Tale (TV show)
• Yellow jackets (TV show)
• Gone Girl (Movie)
• Bridgerton (TV show)
• Big Little Lies (TV show)
• Dopesick (TV show)
Majority of what she likes are thrillers/dramas.

If she liked Bridgerton then buy “Queen Charlotte” by Julia Quinn. Do note that it’s also a show so if she’s seen it then maybe not.
Maybe you could pick her a book that you like the sound of and read it at the same time so you can both talk about it? It definitely helps you find the time to read if someone else is putting some pressure on!
Here are some books I’d suggest, as someone who likes a lot of those TV shows/films:
Girl A by Abigail Dean – a woman who is the survivor of terrible parental neglect and abuse reconnects with her siblings.
In The Woods by Tana French – this is the first of her Dublin Murder Squad books, each of which focuses on a different detective investigating a crime. They’re beautifully written and they really go into the psychology of the detective and the crime.
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang – this is a very funny satirical thriller about a white woman who steals the literary identity of her Chinese-American friend.
If she liked Gone Girl maybe you could look at Gillian Flynn’s other books, Sharp Objects and Dark Places? I enjoyed Sharp Objects most.
