A book with a main character that works in the entertainment industry
I’m a film student and I want recommendations of fiction books, maybe YA or New Adult, with characters that work in the entertainment industry. But not thrillers or dark.
If you include music as part of the entertainment, Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell
Parsnip888 on
Ben Elton’s Dead Famous

*The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo* by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Daisy Jones and The Six

Apparently I read a lot of books where people are in the entertainment industry! Or maybe there’s a lot of books about those characters? Mostly not YA.
A Star is Bored – a lightly fictionalized account by Carrie Fisher’s former assistant
The Family Fang – about siblings whose parents were performance artists and forced them into it as kids, daughter is now an actress
Plain Bad Heroines – technically light horror I guess, about queer women on a movie set
Shotgun Lovesongs – a guy who blew up in music goes back to his hometown
The ensemble – follows a string quartet across decades
A visit from the goon squad – interrelated chapters mostly centering around a band
Bel canto – a hostage situation including an opera singer
The Interestings – follows kids at an arts camp, some of whom make it

Station Eleven – it is part post apocalyptic but jumps between a few timelines including a few different characters working as actors, musicians, publicists, paparazzi, artists etc. I don’t consider it exceptionally dark or scary. Just very interesting insight into characters and humanity as they face the end of the world as they know it.
