Hello. I am looking for a book that is sad and disturbing, and I’d also like it to be in between 200 to 400 pages, and bonuses would be if it is by a female author and has a first person narration. I am currently reading Never Let Me Go and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I’ve heard that it is incredibly sad although I don’t think I’ve reached that part yet. I particularly like how quietly suspenseful and mysterious the book is and was wondering of another book that captures that feeling. But really I just love tragedy and disturbance. I was thinking of reading Atonement yet, but I’ve also been thinking about Rebecca or a Shirley Jackson book, We Have Always Lived in the Castle or The Haunting of Hill House. I want more recommendations though! Thanks in advance.

    1. I personally find Wuthering Heights plenty disturbing.

Rebecca and We Have Always Lived in the Castle are top-tier.

I hope you don’t mind me camping out here for reccs as well. I’m in the exact same mood after finishing the archive 81 tv series and need to read some books with more of that eerie feeling
