Hard science fiction – exploring new planets, xenobiology

I like the idea of scientists about to begin exploration of a new, potentially habitable planet, with all the science that would go with it.

Not that interested in too much action or adventure – you know how avatar focuses more so on the soldiers, who show up AFTER the biologists have already set up shop? I would have liked it if we had seen those scientists as they first arrived in orbit and what they learned as they went down to the surface.

I liked the second Ender’s Game book where they were studying the Pequeniños; and really loved the science-over-action of Story of Your Life (the short story the movie Arrival was based on).
