If you’re fascinated by the intersection of science and civil rights, ‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks’ by Rebecca Skloot is my top suggestion. The story of Henrietta Lacks and the immortal cell line known as HeLa that came from her cancer cells raises important questions about ethics and race in medical research.

I don’t know if it’s definitively the best, but the one I read was the Alexander Walker biography published sometime in the 1990s. It was good.
