I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy (memoire)
Still Alice by Lisa Genova (realistic fiction)
Normal People by Sally Rooney (I didn’t like the story at all and yet somehow I could not put this book down.)
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (don’t judge me, this sh*t was gripping regardless of the writing quality.)
Tender is the Flesh by Augustina Bazterrica (this gets suggested a lot on this sub and it’s honestly in my top 5 books of all time, so if you didn’t like it don’t suggest me a book.)
Bluff by Julie Dill (very original YA)
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (just wow.)
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (slow starting yet interesting enough to hold me thru till the end.)
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke (also in my top 5)
Three Dark Crowns (series) by Kendare Blake (fantasy, NOT romantacy.)

Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors
I couldn’t put this book down and I wasn’t expecting to feel that way at all. It’s not really anything like Normal People in terms of style or plot, but I got a very similar feeling when reading the book although I do think Cleopatra and Frankenstein was better (for me).
Based on Tender is the Flesh, I recommend Nefando by Monica Ojeda. Very different books in terms of structure and themes, but similarly bleak and hard to stomach. Her novel Jawbone is really good as well
