With winter coming on, I feel like I’ll be inside more often and I’d like to read fantasy for escapism. I enjoy the typical vaguely medieval European settings but am open to other settings. Even sci-fi if you happen to think of one.
Most importantly, I would like a book with good pacing and is easy to read.
Patrick Rothfuss’s stuff is juuuust right, but I’m not counting on him to release anything anytime soon. Red Rising, Kurt Vonnegut, and Andy Weir are also good examples of what I’m looking for.
Something *without* the insane worldbuilding and video game tutorials in the Stormlight Archive, the dry prose of ASOIAF, or the old-fashioned Tolkien style. I like all those things, but not for this purpose – my brain is tired after work.
I’m open to YA if it’s not poorly written or overly simple – books I didn’t like for this reason include Hunger Games, Dragonlance by Weiss & Hickman, and Dorothy Must Die.
Bonus if there’s a cool map in the front of the book!
