I was recently looking at a rather esoteric history book on Amazon last week. It was published in 1985 and Amazon had a 1 new copy in stock. 3 days later I go back to Amazon and discover, it had sold out. I’m sure Amazon had it in stock for years. Bearing in the mind, this topic of the book was not in the media, not mentioned on any internet channel, was not part of any reading list nor was the topic discussed among anyone I know. How did this happen?

Either you got unlucky or someone never updated the inventory.
I’ve never been entirely sure that I trust the “One in stock! Order now!”…
What made you look at it? Was it completely random, or did you (for example) read an article with a related subject that led you to it? If that was the case, someone else could have done the same.
