For decades, my family gave each other books and the custom was to write an inscription. “Dear Mary, Happy Birthday, may this book, etc. Love, John.”
As the older generation has died off, I’ve inherited hundreds of these books, plus all the ones I got as gifts.
It’s nice to have thousands of books but we’re de-cluttering and a cookbook or novel my aunt gave another aunt decades ago is not something I’m planning to keep.
But what to do with the books themselves? It feels weird to sell them on Amazon or or donate them to Goodwill, as some stranger gets a book with a tender inscription. I suppose as long as it’s described properly it’s up to the buyer but I’d feel strange buying such a book. Is that just me?
Should I cut out that page with the inscription? Or do people not care?
