Anything by Naomi Novik, particularly Uprooted and the scholomance series.
Also Katherine Arden’s winternight trilogy.
Honestly just all of Holly black I loved her tithe series and the spiderwick chronicles.
You can check common sense media the website for both parent and child reviews on books to help you find if something is age appropriate for who ever you need. I find it better than Goodreads for reviews for children.
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden starting with The Bear and The Nightgale.
*Vespertine* by Margaret Rogerson – I also really liked her book *Sorcery of Thorns*
The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner, starts with *The Thief* and is now complete
‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ by C.S. Lewis, starting with ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,’ is a series I suggest for its classic good versus evil narrative set in the magical land of Narnia. It’s a series that delights with talking animals, noble quests, and allegorical depth.
The Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K Le Guin
Yahtzee Croshaw is a funny author with great characters.
Differently Morphus and Existentially Challenged- Governmental agency involved in the regulation of magic and extra dimensional beings. Female main character.
Mogworld – Main character is undead. Hijinks insue.
The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley was my favorite YA fantasy book when I was around that age.
Tamora Pierce has several different series that might suit.
Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
Dark Rise and its sequel Dark Heir by CS Pacat
A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft
*Throne of Glass* by Sarah J. Maas.
*The Bone Witch* by Rin Chupeco.
*Furyborn* by Claire Legrand.
I’m a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson.
Mistborn Trilogy is a really good series featuring a really fun female protagonist and an awesome cast of characters, with a really cool magic system.
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is fantastic. I especially love the city watch books.
Sabriel and it’s sequels by Garth Nix – SO GOOD.
