What’s your personal strategy for jumping into long books?
I’ve read plenty of long books over the years, but recently I don’t have the motivation to start them. I think it stems from the fact that I have a substantial tbr list and am guilty of tsundoku. I often gaze upon my bookshelf with anticipation of what to read next. I think in my current state Im a little intimidated by the thought of one book taking up one if not multiple months of reading when I have a bookshelf of more reasonably length books.
I’m not worried about losing focus or the act reading one that long but more of the exclusivity of it…if that makes sense
On strategy is that I plan to make my annual book reading challenge a very modest number for 2024, so I don’t feel pressured. I also took lonesome dove out of my tbr storage so I finally tackle it
Any thoughts?

I’m not going to lie, long books intimidated the hell out of me before I started using an e-reader. Now, every book is on an even playing field! I think the modest reading goal is a good start. You’re reading to escape and enjoy the plot, not to check off a certain number before the end of the year! Don’t let the competition aspect discourage you from reading what you want to read.
just start reading your long books, they’re the best lol
I never had this issue, so I’m not exactly sure why they would be intimidating. It sounds like you are more worried about your book count than the quality of the book. So you may want to think about setting book reading goals like “5hrs per week” or 30min every night. Then it doesnt matter how many books you read.
Also, when you reach for a big book, think about how cool it will be if it’s a really good book because you will get to be in the book for a longer time.
Just some thoughts. Hopefully they are helpful
