    Hi all,

I want to gift my wife two or three books for Christmas this year and wrap them in the “blind date with a book” fashion. I have my own reading taste, which *vastly* differs from hers. Horror and non-fiction history are my favorite genres, so I’m out of my depth on what to pick and wanted to consult the peanut gallery.

She reads a lot of the titles popular on “BookTok”: authors like Emily Henry, Colleen Hoover, and the Sarah J. Maas Court series. I want to surprise her with some titles that she could enjoy based on those, but that might deviate into different genres or settings. Just something refreshing that might capture her interest!

    1. If she’s on BookTok, then she might have already read/have these, but going off of the authors you’ve listed, here are some recs published in the past year or two:

      * The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent (Romantsy)
      * Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood (Contemporary Romance)
      * Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (Literary Fic)
      * Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross (YA Fantasy)

If she has a GoodReads account, I’d suggest looking at her “Wants To Read” shelf 😉
