I’m thinking of writing a story with a detective at some point and I’m not sure to start, so I thought it’d be fun to to kinda learn as I go in a more organic way. Most I’ve seen sort of expect you to know all the slangs and everything so I was wondering if there are any books that go into detail about the whole process of solving a crime as a private detective.
Sorry if this is a stupid request! I’m kinda new to reading regularly in general due to a lot of things growing up.

Sherlock Holmes idk
Tess Gerritsen is a good author to look into. She gets really into the medical/forensics side of crime solving. I’d recommend the Rizzoli and Isles series. She also has lots of great stand alones
