He loves to read on his own, but we always read together at the end of the night before he falls asleep. Here are some books we’ve read over the past few years:

**The Penderwicks** – we’re on the last book in this series right now, and he’s not ready for it to end! He loves the characters and the animals and the humor.

**The 13 Story Treehouse** – we read this whole series, as well. He LOVED this one. The humor (and again, the animals) are right up his alley.

**Peter Pan** – he enjoyed this one enough.

**The Borrowers** – he liked this one, too.

**The Very, Very Far North** – He really enjoyed this one and its sequel.

**The Mysterious Benedict Society** – he was OBSESSED with this series. This one was actually probably a little *too* exciting to read before bed, lol. He loved the suspense of it and the mystery and the attitude some of the characters had.

**The Bad Guys** – he had fun with these.

**Nothing Much Happens** – this one made him so happy 🙂 he loved the coziness of it and how simple and calming it was. We actually read through this one twice before we switched to another book lol.

Some books he’s read on his own and enjoyed:

**The Poppy Series** (by Avi) – he read one of these in school and decided to check the rest out of the library. He loved them.

**Ivy & Bean** – same thing as the Poppy series: read one at school and had to finish the series.

**Cat Kid Comic Club** & **Dog Man** – he’s read all of these.

Overall, he loves funny books, especially if they involve animals. He’s almost 10 but he’s always read well above his grade level. He does have anxiety though so nothing too dark please! Lol I appreciate any suggestions!

My son is the same age and we’ve read a lot of the series/books you listed. He also has anxiety so I’m vigilant about content.

After finishing the Diary of a Wimpy kid series (I loved it, it was okay to read as the parent) we just started the Wild Robot series.

It’s been my favourite bedtime read in a while for us. There’s three books total. Environment is well written, it keeps his attention, short chapters, so he normally reads 2-3 before bed.

    3. Christmasaurus series by Tom Fletcher.
      BFG by Roald Dahl.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
      Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan.

*Ronia, The Robbers Daughter* by Astrid Lindgren is an all time favorite. Fabulous fantasy coming of age novel by the author famous for Pippi Longstocking. I loved it as a child and love it still as an adult.

    5. Katherine Applegate has a ton of great animal POV stories (One and Only Ivan series, Dogtown, etc.), and Wishtree is from the POV of a tree.

Also Stella by McCall Hoyle (dog POV).
