In previous years I have gotten on a kick of gifting my dad new books to read for Christmas/Birthdays.
Previous years have focused on history/small history/under-written history books he’s enjoyed. These have included:
Lost City of the Monkey God
Empire of the Summer Moon
1177 B.C.: The Year Civilization Collapsed
Famous Nathan: A Family Saga of Coney Island, the American Dream, and the Search for the Perfect Hot Dog
The Great Halifax Explosion: A World War I Story of Treachery, Tragedy, and Extraordinary Heroism
And I’m trying to think of where to go next from here for this year’s gift

Lost City of Z?
[Lucky Johnny](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23123454-lucky-johnny?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=g4IYnmxMpH&rank=1) is a good one. It’s about an English football player that gets drafted into the war and ends up a POW in the River Kwai death camps. Surprisingly uplifting!
