It really is a love story, tho the story is actually Nabokov’s love for the English language and the american landscape…

I’m rereading it now and it’s challenging and brilliantly written. Big 5/5

My spicy opinion is that “Ada, or Ardor” shows off Navokov’s skills to better effect, and that “Lolita” is more famous because people like that it’s got the allure of an “edgy” book.

Sigh. I hated it when I was reading it but powered through and finished. But I have found myself recommending it to others here on Reddit, usually when someone asks for a psychologically dark book or an unreliable narrator.
Obviously the subject matter is repellant. This book made my skin crawl. After reading it, I wanted to take my brain out and wash it with soap so I could feel clean again. But I have to admit it is beautifully written and is a powerful work of art. So, yes, even though I found it a very difficult read, I would still recommend it. Best book I’ll never read again.
