My best friend committed suicide. I have been thinking about death a lot over the last few weeks. Please suggest something that will help me navigate loss, anger and guilt for not having been there for him when he needed me to be. Maybe something philosophical or religious to give me a different perspective on death will he helpful too. Thank you in advance.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

One of the best books that helped me navigate death is Staring at the Sun by Irvin Yalom. It is from a psychiatrist’s atheist perspective, and he explores how to navigate anxiety around death and discover your own meaning of life.

    2. I have heard that A Grief Observed by CS Lewis is very good. When my mom died, I found a lot of comfort in Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. I recently heard an interview about Seasons of Sorrow by Tim Challies but I also have not read that one yet.

I’m very sorry for your loss. It’s not your fault.

I am sorry for your loss. Check out Healing Your Grieving Heart by Alan Wolfelt. It has a short but comprehension intro about the many ways that people grieve, then 100 short reflections and practical ideas to work through your grief and think about what you are experiencing.
