I’m not conflating BPD and cynicism. I recently read Boy Parts, by Eliza Clark and I couldn’t get enough of the narrator, who I believe displayed traits associated with borderline personality disorder. She was also very snarky and cynical.
She regularly engaged in antisocial behavior, yet she had positive qualities (beauty, intellect, cunning, independence) that made her redeemable in the eyes of other characters. That’s what made her so interesting to me as a reader.
Has anyone read something with a comparable tone or narrator?
