I admit that I might be biased here because I’ve absolutely loved some of this series (MST and Otherland are all-time favourites for me), but I’ve always wondered why his books just… don’t seem that famous.
FWIW, *none* of his books are in [Time’s list of the 100 best fantasy books](https://time.com/collection/100-best-fantasy-books/) or [Esquire’s list of the 50 best fantasy books](https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/books/g39385874/best-fantasy-books/) of all time, his books don’t appear up there in bestsellers lists, and much more anecdotally it’s fairly uncommon to see people online list his books among their top X favourites.
Did his work just not catch some kind of cultural zeitgeist that other much more famous authors did? It just seems strange given that GRRM, Rothfuss, and so many others were inspired by him.
