I’m pretty new to reading and I’m looking for something interesting to read at nights. The books I’ve read (and really loved) have been:
    – House of Leaves
    – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
    – I read the Phantom Tollbooth as a kid and loved it.
    – What If?
    – Stuff You Should Know: An Incomplete Compendium of Mostly Interesting Things.

I read a bunch in high school I didn’t love, like Things Fall Apart and The Good Earth, but I did like Of Mice & Men. I also couldn’t really get into the likes of Eragon and Percy Jackson type stuff.

    Thanks for any help!

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton is seriously good and highly entertaining. It’s very different from the movie so it’s a whole different experience that doesn’t feel redundant. It might be the best page-turner type book I’ve read because it moves at a great pace, is a thrilling adventure, and it keeps you hooked until the very end. The tropical setting is really nice and it actually has a lot of intense moments. Some that are pretty scary.

A couple more that are considered excellent page-turners are Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and Recursion by Blake Crouch.

If you’re looking to try out some fantasy, but don’t want stereotypical fantasy, check out the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. It’s very good and very different.

One other great fantasy, which is a stand-alone book and thus a smaller investment, is The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang.

All these books have excellent reception and are totally worth your time. Look them up when you get a chance.
