Yes, the authors should have been asked, not told, and no, it’s not like a person getting a book from a library. Because one is a person getting a book from a library, the other is a machine copying the texts to mix and match them to automatically create others. And it’s very weird many people can’t seem to get how it’s different.

    2. I would think it’s because the authors lose their agency over material that they worked very hard on and make their living off of. AI takes all that work and talent, lots of of which are very personal in nature, and learns how to recreate it. There’s an element of using their books in a way that they did not intend on or being compensated for, and there’s an element of AI potentially taking away the jobs of authors when it learns how to write best sellers itself. From a consumer standpoint, we want a good book. From the authors’ perspective, they are having their very talented skills used in a way that backhandedly damages their job security.
