This might sound very quirky but is anything but. I just genuinely cannot take any more modern romance/YA books. The covers are always so ugly, I am literally already totally familiar with the plot after reading the description and they are all the same, boring schemes put in other situations. Like I just cannot even look anymore at those books, because I know they will be either
• fake-dating and 90% of the plot is smut
• bad boy trope
• emotionally distant girl trope
• “enemies to lovers” (they had a disagreement at school)
I genuinely don’t have a choice but to read classics 😭 Some of the newer books I’ve read and liked would be:
• “The song of Achilles”
• “If we were villains”
• “Vicious” and “Vengeful” (not the biggest fan but I loved the concept)
• “Before the coffee gets cold” (again, not the biggest fan but I love the entire concept)
• “A good girl’s guide…” was genuinely okay
• “Bunny” – I am still so confused about it and that’s why I liked it
Problem is that I’ve read at least 3 times more modern books than that. And heard about probably about 5 times more books than that. And they are all a big no to me 😭
I would even say, oftentimes the plot would be okay if not the way the book is executed. You would think that if an author decides to write a book about abusive relationship and show it in negative light it would be great! And then Colleen Hoover publishes her 748392929 book that somehow fucks this topic up
I feel like such a snob when saying this because I am also just 16, but I just cannot actually enjoy most modern books and it annoys me because I WISH I COULD!! At this point I just accepted my fate of reading classics lmfao 😭 But maybe someone has some good recs? I would be happy to hear
