A new massive public library opened in my town. I need some book recommendations. I really enjoy fantasy/sci-fi books, especially those where the worlds have really deep lore and in depth magic systems I can delve into. I love getting lost in fictional worlds. Some of my favorite series are A Song Of Ice And Fire, The Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, Divergent, the Star Wars novels, and The Dune Chronicles. I want something slightly less mainstream than those, though. I’m trying to broaden my horizons.

I love your list! I’m a huge high fantasy fan, especially middle-earth. I have not read any of Martin’s work yet, but I just finished the tv series and I wish I had read the books first. So I will probably go back and do that.

The Name of the Wind is a good one by Patrick Rothfuss, and the sequel Wise Man’s Fear. Just a heads up there is a third book in the installment that fans have been waiting for for several years that has yet to materialize.

I have not read them all yet but they are definitely on my list– but the many novels by Brandon Sanderson. I just finished the novella The Emperor’s Soul. It was great!

A couple of stand alones that are not high fantasy but good fantasy:

Piranesi, Suzanne Clarke. Probably my favorite read of the year.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane is my fav Neil Gaiman.

Currently reading The Bear and The Nightingale that was recommended on another thread–so far it’s really good.

Have fun exploring your new library!
