I just finished Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel today, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it.
In my opinion, one area where sci-fi books often fall short is in conveying the emotions of the characters in a convincing way. These people are put in mind bending situations, and sometimes I just don’t buy how they respond. Not the case in Sea of Tranquility! The author did a great job of fully exploring what the characters were going through emotionally and what it would feel like to be in those worlds.
I was nervous to read Sea of Tranquility at first because it was the first fiction book I’ve read because it was recommended to me here. However, it was well worth the risk! If you’re at all interested in sci-fi, time travel, simulation hypothesis, or any similar subjects, I highly recommend it.
