I’m eyeball deep in Warhammer already lol.
I was hoping for something similar to Gears of War or Halo (I know about their books already). Horror is good too, but I would rather not have this as the main course.
Books I think are similar to this would be Fortress Britain, book one in the Arisen series. Military action. It’s actually very good IMO. In a world over that has been run by zombies for years, only England/London and a US carrier filled with S class soldiers survive. Word comes along that someone was working on cure(?) in Chicago and they have to go look. They are outnumbered five million to one and can only carry so many rounds. Calling in the calvary is not an option.

Scalzi
Haldeman’s _Forever War_ and related books
And the Laundry Files series by Charles Stross
Pierce Brown’s series which starts with “Red Rising” has long since surpassed its “Hunger Games on Mars” beginning. Not that the beginning is bad given what you are looking for.
*Battlefield Earth* by L. Ron Hubbard (it’s long but *so* good)
Martha Wells’ *Murderbot Diaries* series of novellas follow a one-cyborg army as it protects its clients at the edge of the galaxy. Fast-paced, action-packed, minimal world-building.
The first one is **All Systems Red.**
Maybe Armor by John Steakley
