so.. i’m an apprentice library assistant and i have been put to the task of creating a reading group for teenagers. we have plenty of adult reading groups in our specific library but we are trying to push some of our younger people to get into reading or to make friends with other fellow bookworms through a club, but at the same time i feel like (for many reasons) it will be much harder to set something like this up for teens in comparison to adults.
should we all read the same book? if so what kind of books? should we do any other book related activities? how could i keep them interested?
if anyone has any ideas at all, please let me know! 😀

    1. First off, I wish you luck! With teens, the more control you give them the more likely they are to get invested. See what they think – get a focus group together, see what kind of books they like to read, maybe you could pull together a few possibilities and have them vote. (Maybe consider manga or graphic novels.)

In my limited experience, this is really hard to do with a random group of teenagers, especially ones who don’t like reading in the first place. The only time I really saw it succeed was with a group of theater kids who read plays and then came in and did little skits instead of just sitting and “discussing,” which raises shades of English class. So maybe something playful like that?
