Hi! A friend of mine is extremely well read and knowledgeable about indigenous cultures, archaeology, US history, and wars the US was involved in. He regularly watches all kinds of documentaries. His favorite books are Education of Little Tree, Spoon River Anthology, Foxfire Series, Popol Vuh, Iron John but Im not sure what else.. these are the ones he mentions a lot/has out in his living room. His favorite docuseries is Time Team. Looking for a fairly recently released book on any of these topics to gift him for Christmas!

For that time team feel, I recommend Ruth Goodman. She’s mainly a domestic historian and really insightful into daily life in other times. She’s part of the “xyz farm” (starting with tudor monastery farm) series of docummentaries which are gems.

For US indigenous history, I liked “The First Americans” by John David Cross, and for general US history “Wicked River: The Mississipi when it last ran wild” by Lee Sandlin.

    2. The Unsubstantial Air: American Fliers in the First World War was a good one. So was Greater Gotham: A History of New York City from 1898 to 1919. More recently, I read The Americans by Daniel J. Boorstin.
