ISO Dark Fantasy Romance

Hey there!

I’m looking for some dark fantasy books (or at least fantasy that has a healthy dose of grit). Bonus points if there are some morally grey characters in there. I’d also LOVE a good romantic subplot, but tbh, I’d be totally okay with substituting romance for smut. I’m not squeamish or easily triggered and can easily handle darker content.

I’m not a huge fan of teen protagonists or the whole coming of age storyline – I just find it harder to connect with a younger protag now that I’m solidly into my 30s. Older teens (18) are fine if they’re a bit more mature, but really looking for some adult characters to connect with.

Two series that have stuck with me recently that I feel like I’m chasing the vibes of are:
• Chronicles of the Unhwen Throne by Brian Staveley
• The Necromancer’s Key by Michell Hogan

Literally any Recs would be appreciated. I went to B&N the other day and felt so overwhelmed by the options and yet still felt like I couldn’t find what I was looking for .
