Going to Rwanda and I always like to take a book “in the spirit” of the place I’m travelling to.
It has to be fiction (can be based on real life though); traditional or contemporary.
I understand the genocide is a massive part of their history so it is understandable a lot of the literature revolves around that. I will be going to the memorial in Kigali and I don’t mind challenging literature but I don’t want a book that is relentlessly bleak for a holiday read.
If a Rwandan author/ setting isn’t possible then something that resonates with similar cultural values / challenges western perspective would be good.
Mainstream enough that I can get it from a UK library would be ideal but not a deal breaker.

A Rwandan coworker was very proud of the work that has been done to preserve gorilla habitats, and grow the tourism industry to make their protection financially incentivized. Perhaps a book about that?
