I’m a mid 30’s male that never got into reading but would like to explore reading as a new hobby. I have tried before but nothing has kept my interest, I have read less than 10 books in my lifetime most of which were the typical highschool books (Lord of the Flies, 1984, etc.). It’s a weird feeling, I want to start reading but I can never seem to immerse myself enough to stick with it. I’m not sure what genre I would be interested in yet, just looking for something to spark a joy in reading.

You like Star Wars by any chance?
Mid 30s male here, my jam is science fictiony, adventure stories with occasional cool magic systems, but not to the degree of fantasy novels. I could suggest a ton of books like that if that sounds interesting. Also if you don’t like reading, try Audible/audio books. There are many free ones available from libraries and most can be downloaded directly to your phone with an app called Libby and a library card. Or audible you can pay for, but you can listen to like 5mins as a sample before purchasing.

It depends on what you like! If you want a really cool, badass story i’d recommend Stephen Kings Dark Tower series. It’s very different than his other stuff, and is less horror and more sci fi cowboy shenanigans. The first book isn’t too long, and if you find yourself not enjoying it no worries then, and if you do you’ve got six more books afterwards
I find it useful to see what type of tv shows/movies/games people like first and then go from there! If there’s a novel tie-in then that’s usually a good place to start, or starting with a similar genre.
For example, I’ve been ripping through a lot of Star Wars novels & audiobooks lately, and I’ve really enjoyed The Martian, Game of Thrones, etc.
What kind of movies do you like? But off the top of my head, I’d try something like James Patterson, Harlan Coben, Clive Cussler, Blake Crouch, John Grisham, S.A. Cosby.
Some of these books may seem long and maybe daunting, but they aren’t difficult reading.
If you think you’re up for it and like coming of age type “concepts” A Prayer for Owen Meany or the World According to Garp by John Irving.
