My kid, 9, loves the book Fractured Fairy Tales By A.J. Jacobs. It’s a literary version of the Rocky & Bullwinkle skit. She has read every story about 3x and laughs silly every time.

I’m already getting her The Stinky Cheese Man and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. But she’s at a middle grade level, and loves graphic novels. I’d like to get her something geared to slightly older kids.

I don’t want to get her something too YA, if you know what I mean. She’s a very innocent 9.

    Any suggestions?

    1. Aw it’s been a long time since I’ve thought about the Stinky Cheese Man.

      For funny stories:

I loved the Bailey School Kids books.

Sideways Stories from the Wayside School.

I’d read it first to determine if it’s too much for her but if she loves graphics, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is great.

      For graphics:

      Where the Sidewalk Ends

True Story of the Three Little Pigs

I would look for everything by Shel Silverstein

    2. ‘Mistborn: The Final Empire’ by Brandon Sanderson is a novel I recommend for its unique magic system and the revolution against a dark lord. Sanderson’s storytelling is both accessible and deeply satisfying, making it a great entry point for new fantasy readers.
