HELP (also don’t come for me if you love this book). So I bought A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) almost a year ago, and never got around to reading it. After seeing it plastered all over my social media out of nowhere, I decided to pick it up. I had very high hopes for the series as so many people seemed to be showering it with high praise. Alas, I sat down with it tonight, struggled to get past 5 chapters, but gave it a fighting chance, and I’m now at Chapter 20. I can’t say I have ever hated how a book has been written, before today. The writing feels so immature and repetitive, Fayre is so unlikeable and boring, and every page is as predictable as the last. But I stuck with it for what the story could have been. I tried to like it, I did, but I can’t. I feel an undue commitment to finishing it now, so I probably will, but I’d really like if someone could offer me some suggestions for a similar book… that perhaps is more mentally stimulating. I recently read The Name of the Wind, and love Rothfuss’ writing style. I wanted to get more into the high fantasy romance, so decided to give ACOTAR a go, but clearly to get into this genre I didn’t pick an option that suited me.
