Hey all! 3 years ago I (25M at that point) got into reading. However, since this new semester of my college studies (computer science) i’ve lost the urge to read books on my free time, it’s so much reading in school that I feel exhausted. I reckon it’s the lack of a really good book thats lacking in particular. I came to this conclusion as I do have an urge to read some of the better books that i’ve already read once.
Some of the books and authors I have really liked are:
George orwell – Animal farm, 1984
Albert camus : The stranger, The plague, Myth of sisyphos
Murakami: Killing comentadore, Kafka on the shore, 1Q84(didnt really get into the series)
Franz kafka – Metamorphosis, The trial
Hemingway – The man and the sea
Gabriel Garcia Marquez – A hundred years of loneliness
Lord of the rings + Hobbit and Silmarillion.
As you can tell, I am quite into the classics, do you guys have any suggestions? I have Crime and Punishment and The Idiot on the bookshelf, which I would really like to read, but due to their utter size I feel like i’ts too much of a commitment right now.
Im also into a bit of philosophy, I have read (apart from the camus i mentioned) The republic and some other of Platons writings, Thus spoke zarathustra, some Mary wholestonecraft among others. So if you got any recommendations there I would very much enjoy them too!

I eagerly wait for ur response and wish you all clear skies!

short classics I think are amazing:
Farenheit 451 is amaaaaazing 🙂
Frankenstein!
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Also a modern author who writes history mixed with science fiction and overall just a phenomenal writer: Colson Whitehead. Really story driven, some more directly discussing racism than others. The Intuitionist is a great one to start with- it’s an alternative world where the job with the highest esteem is an elevator inspector. A more “on the nose” one is The Underground Railroad, where it’s an actual railroad
Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky- much shorter than the two you mentioned, although I would still highly recommend Crime and Punishment once you’re more back into the swing of reading
The Death of Ivan Ilyich- Tolstoy
Ecce Homo is v good by Nietzsche and short as well, personally prefer it to Beyond Good and Evil
Man’s Search for Meaning- best non-fiction book I have read- combination of psychology, philosophy and history
