Looking for some non-fiction books that comprehensively aim to explain the world and connect various topics instead of dealing with just one particular subject
Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari is pretty good and very popular. If I remember, it goes from apes/early man to almost the present, covering the general creation of civilization.
Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond is along the same lines and is a classic. It predates Sapiens (I think Harari actually mentions Diamond in the acknowledgments).
I think some historians aren’t big fans of the broad strokes of both of the above, but they’re pretty great for big-picture history.
