I’m finding this genre of fiction a lot of fun. I’ve read The Maid and The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose and Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett. I found them quirky, delightful, well written with interesting characters. Let me know if you’ve come across anything similar.

      – anything by John Scalzi would probably float your boat. I just finished **Starter Villain** which is about a lazy but lovable schlub who is going nowhere (and has a cat). He unexpectedly inherits his uncle’s supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair). Will he have what it takes to keep the business going? And does his cat ever really wear the business suit he is on the cover?

    2. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (really anything by him)

Hotel 21 by Senta Rich (more along the lines of The Maid)

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

    3. I know it’s oversuggested and almost a cliche at this point, but Infinite Jest is absolutely tragicomedy. It’s laugh out loud funny in places and has some unforgettable scenes. It is also tragic in many ways. Suicide, addiction, crime, etc. I feel like I learned a lot about addiction from it, while still being enjoyable.

    4. ‘Bossypants’ by Tina Fey is a must-read for its uproarious anecdotes and Fey’s signature humor. It’s a memoir that provides a backstage look at ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ’30 Rock,’ and Fey’s comedic take on her rise to fame is both inspiring and laugh-out-loud funny.
