Suggest me a book about isolation and/or unraveling a mysterious location

I’m a big sci-fi and fantasy reader. I just finished reading “The thing in the snow” by Sean Adams, and while I really loved the setting and the way it was written, the lack of answers left me a little unsatisfied. Can you suggest any more novels about isolated and mysterious places? I generally prefer more contemporary novels, but am open to anything. Thanks!
