I’m a big non-fiction reader, usually about history and politics. But I really want to start reading “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy by the start of the new year. Before that though, I would really like to better grasp the Napoleonic Wars and/or the Russian Society by the time of Napoleon’s invasion.
I believe having a better understanding of that time period and the period in which W&P takes place will help me to appreciate this behemoth of a book. Thanks for any suggestions!

For an insightful look at military life during the American Civil War, ‘The Red Badge of Courage’ by Stephen Crane is my go-to suggestion. This novel delves into the psyche of a young soldier grappling with fear and bravery in equal measure.
