I’ve noticed a weird throughline in the type of media my brain really latches onto and it’s this, lol.

    Book examples:

    – Gideon (and honestly, Harrow too) from The Locked Tomb
    – Zhu Chongba from She Who Became The Sun (sort of)

    Non book examples:

    – Ellie from The Last of Us
    – Vi from Arcane
    – Mizu from Blue Eye Samurai

But yeah! If anyone has more books about people who are either lesbians or have a complex relationship with gender, have a deeply tragic story, and are super violent, I would love to read them!

I’m more interested in interesting and tragic characters that’ll haunt your brain forever than ticking all the boxes, so if you have something that fits the spirit but isn’t quite what I asked for, feel free to recommend anyway!

    1. I think Seven Blades in Black by Sam Sikes may fit the bill. Sal the Cacophony gives the vibe you are looking for.

You can also try Steel Crow Saga. There are several queer characters in there and lots of angst.

    2. Alex from _What Moves the Dead_ by T Kingfisher

Lucky Meas from the Tide Child Trilogy (_The Bone Ships_) by R J Barker

*Godkiller* by Hannah Kaner. FMC is a total badass, and not traditionally feminine.

Legends and Lattes. Light on the traumatized, heavy on the queer/masculine could kill your

    6. ‘Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage’ by Alfred Lansing is a book I always suggest for an inspiring true story of survival. It recounts Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition when his ship was trapped and crushed by ice. The crew’s fight for survival in the harshest conditions is nothing short of miraculous.
