    4. “The Ghosts of Evolution” by Connie Barlow is about anachronistic features on plants, things that drain energy and seemingly make it HARDER to survive because they evolved to interact with extinct animals. Barlow does a good job showing how a regular person can notice these patterns and run fun little experiments (leave collected fruits outside, see if anything eats it! Carry seed pods and see if they stick to road kill!). When people talk about how avocados evolved to be dispensed by giant sloths, this is what they’re talking about.
