I am looking for books where we see a character slowly but surely turn evil in the span of a couple of chapters. I want to see how a character can slowly get corrupted but done so in a short and summarized manner while also being highly believable as well. It would be an even better if the catalyst for their corruption was because they acquired a grand power. It could be the origin story of the villain through a flashback or one that details the protagonist fall from grace.

I don’t need spoilers on which specific character goes this particular arc. Just the name of the book would surmise.

The Shining is a good example, but Jack doesn’t really “gain power” unless seeing ghosts counts
