Hey,
I am looking for a good revenge book with a bit more action, something where the main hero goes the extra mile with his vengeance on his path of “scorching the earth.” I am looking for a personal story where the hero suffers a tragedy that forces him onto dark paths.
I read “Monte Cristo,” and although it is an amazing book, its beauty lies in the dialogues and slowly uncovering information piece by piece. I need something with a bit more action this time – some form of personal vendetta, ideally on a smaller scale (a one-man army would be ideal). I don’t really care about the period, but it would be great if it was set in the 1500-1900s, preferably without magic, sci-fi or futuristic elements. Imagine a “John Wick” book set in the 1500-1900s.
I tried reading the first book in the First Law trilogy by Abercrombie so I could get to “Best Served Cold,” but it felt like the author tried too hard to make it edgy. Maybe it was a letdown because I went from “Monte Cristo” straight to “The Blade Itself,” and the writing, compared to Dumas, wasn’t for me at that time. I also saw “Red Rising” in recommendations a lot in some other posts, but when I saw tags such as “future” and “Mars,” it was an instant no-zone book-wise.
Thank you
