A few years ago, I spent most of my savings on *The Lunar Chronicles* by Marissa Meyer (*Cinder*, *Scarlet*, *Cress*, *Winter*, and *Stars Above*; I didn’t get *Fairest*), read them all, and loved them…though I didn’t reread them and sold them some time later.
And what was the first series you spent most of your savings on?

Harry Potter, though it was one book at a time. I’m in the generation that aged with the books. My sibling and I would pool together our money to get each new book on the release date.
The Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake. I bought a volume per fortnight after school on a Friday.
I don’t know if it counts, but I have all of A Song of Ice and Fire in paperback, and all three hard cover 20 years anniversary illustrated edition books.
I bought the [the Books of Earthsea](https://www.ursulakleguin.com/the-books-of-earthsea) by Ursula Le Guin using a sizeable chunk of my first ever salary (internship stipend at the time).
The hardbound copy is beautiful, and the illustrations are an added bonus to the beautiful story.
Lord of the Rings. Saw the first movie when it came out, found out it was based on books and went straight to the book store after the movie. Turns out every man and his dog wanted to read the first book, so only books 2 and 3 were available. I got them and waited almost 2 months before the first book (in the same style as the other 2 books) was back in stock again. My sister had gotten the brick size version with the 3 books and she never finished the book.
The Dark Tower, which I immensely regret still.
Without doing so intentionally, I ended up with all the books in the Sherlock Holmes series, short story collections as well as novels. I was probably 13 when I completed it with *The Valley of Fear*.

The Vampire Kisses books by Ellen Schreiber . I discovered the series when browsing in BAM and saw the 2nd book , which was new to me . I liked the cover and after reading a little of it , thought it interesting enough to buy . After that , each year and every few months I’d purchase another from the same bookstore until I had all of them , including the manga art -style books . ( I got the second book first and the first and third books second because that was how BAM had them in stock and out on the shelves when I went there , which is kind of funny )
Sara Douglass novels. Hades’ Daughter series (4 books) and the Wayfarer Redemption series (6 books). Those were probably the first series I collected.
The Expanse. Such a great series
