I’m pretty new to reading and I’ve mainly read stephen King. I’d like to get something that either sounds like him or has the same feeling when reading. The books I’ve read are
The shining, Doctor sleep, The stand, Misery, 11/22/63, Under the dome, In the tall grass, The institute, Needful things, Firestarter, Fairy tale, and The long walk.

I’m mainly looking for horror books or psychological books, but I’m open for some good fantasy

I don’t read a ton of horror because I’m a coward, but I enjoyed The Shining. More recently I’ve enjoyed a lot of T Kingfisher’s horror, particularly The Twisted Ones and The Hollow Places. She also writes fantasy and they both have significant speculative elements

    2. Darkness on the Edge of Town by Brian Keene. Keene has even stated that it was inspired by King’s The Mist.

    3. Also pick up The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Revival, and Desperation if you haven’t read them yet.

Ronald Malfi has a similar feel to King. My favorites are Bone White, Come with Me, and Black Mouth.

      NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay (possession), Birdbox by Josh Malerman (post-apocalytic), The House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward, and The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones might give you some trends in modern horror.

    4. You might enjoy the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz. I’m a big King fan also but not so much most of Koontz’s novels. Odd Thomas is a the exception for me though. They have the humor, character development and atmosphere of a good Stephen King.

    5. I always recommend ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by J.R.R. Tolkien to anyone looking to be immersed in an epic fantasy adventure. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is a masterclass in world-building, complete with its own languages, races, and a battle between the forces of good and evil that has become the blueprint for modern fantasy.
