Hello! I hope I explain this right, but I’m looking for a fiction book that will mentally fuck with me. Something that will make me think about it for days to come. It can be a book that has some sort of fucked up societal issues (dystopian), is mental illness focused, some mind-bending concept like space or technology (If you can get all three of these, I’ll love you forever), etc. Something that’s really disturbing that gets more disturbing the more you think about it. One with a really big plot twist I will never see coming that will fuck me up. Something that’s more subtle in it’s fuckedupness. It can have graphic scenes, but I’m more looking for a “read between the lines” kinda fucked up. A book that’s kinda like the TV show Black Mirror.
The only thing I’m not looking for is romance stuff, it can have it, but preferably not the focus. It’s just not really my thing, respectfully. (Unless it’s a really fucked up one then hit me.)
Young adult or adult, both are cool with me.
Please destroy me mentally.
Some examples I can think of that I really liked are Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane, The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman (younger audiences but I loved it), or The Hunger Games tbh.
