Hey all, I’m pretty new to reading and for many years I’ve never found the time to do so, but I’ve really been making an effort the last few months.

I absolutely loved Frankenstein and am looking for similar gothic/sad romantic books that deal with many of the topics in Frankenstein.

I really enjoyed Shelly’s writing and her descriptions of pain and sorrow. I also really liked the existential questions regarding the quest for forbidden knowledge as well as the clandestine and morbid nature of it all.

As a huge horror fan a few other books on my list are Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as well as other stories by H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Wells’ Island of Dr. Moreau is a page-turner that deals with the same issues in many ways— humans playing god, creation without compassion, and who the monsters are.

If you are looking for something more modern, Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi is heartbreaking, wonderful book,
