I used to be an avid reader when I was a kid, I could read 100 pages a day! I read because I wanted an escape from my small community, to go to a place that felt like it was made for me. To be somewhere important, where weird outcast kids could feel accepted. Books were my only true friend for the first few years of my life. It kept me company and grounded me. It taught me valuable lessons my neglectful parents couldn’t bother to teach me about.

As I grew older I lost my passion for reading. But now I’m in a period of discovering myself and I want to rediscover my love for this hobby but no book is able to scratch that itch. I read almost exclusively Rick Riodran books. Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, the first two books of Magnus Chase. Although I feel like I wouldn’t really enjoy those books now if I read them again.

Other books I’ve tried and got through multiple chapters but lost interest: Circe, The House on the Cerulean Sea, The Once and Future Witches, The Wee Free men, The Way of Kings. Nothing that could keep me absorbed and make me lose track of my surroundings.

Honestly I don’t know what kind of books I’d like but I know I do like fantasy. I read a lot of Manga but I’m in an anime burnout right now and I’m so tired of the genre. But the manga I genuinely love are Chainsaw Man, Fire Punch, Sousou no Frieren and Dungeon Meshi. They’re all pretty different but one thing they all have in common is being introspective in their own way. Multiple days have gone by in a flash while reading these and I have never lost interest.

If you could suggest me a book that would be great, thank you!

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire is a standalone novella about a school for kids who can’t adjust to the “real world” after going to Narnia/Wonderland/etc. It’s got a dreamy, fantasy quality to it, but it’s also short and fast paced so you’re less likely to lose interest. And while it is a complete story on its own (so reading one doesn’t commit you to a massive series), there are loads of other books in the series, many of which are also semi-independent, so you can read on and pick and choose if you do like it.

    2. It sounds like you’re looking for fantastical young adult literature with a manga vibe — I would suggest Hell Followed With Us by White (big content warning for body horror), or the Renegades series by Meyer. You might also like graphic novels?

    3. *The Magicians* Series is kind of like a cross between harry potter and narnia, but for adults.

Anything by Neil Gaiman or Brandon Sanderson, The Devil Wears Prada, the Hunger Games, the Imheritance Cycle (Eragon). My reading habits have been flickering recently, but these always put me back on track
