A few years back I read a really dramatic Chinese web novel where the main character’s mother was dying from a wound and persuading the king that her daughter was his blood, when in actuality, the daughter was the child of the opposing countrie’s king.

Yes it was really dramatic lol

As much as the other parts of the book were really good, this is the part that stayed with me the most, I think I got tired of all the deathbed confessions trope.

Do you know any books where a character lies, perhaps through their gritted teeth while they die?

Important: please don’t recommend any books where the character refused to tell the secret on their deathbed, I hate these with a passion!

    1. This isn’t exactly what you’re looking for but “big fish” is a short little book that’s got a dying man telling his life story and it is OUTRAGEOUS. It’s a pretty lighthearted book (and honestly the movie is better in my opinion) but it’s kinda along the lines of what you’re looking for
